Dear Ms. Bender and Ms. Garwood:

Thank you for your February 12, 2025, letter to Mr. Mike K. Wirth, Chevron’s Chairman and CEO. I am responding on behalf of Mr. Wirth in my role coordinating communications with Chevron’s Board of Directors. That letter attempts to connect Chevron to alleged human rights violations in the West Bank and Gaza. Chevron in no way participates in or contributes to the armed conflict in Gaza, violence or settlement activity in the West Bank, or any violations of international human rights or humanitarian law in the region.

Chevron engages in the general provision of energy to Israel and its neighbors, for the benefit of the diverse civilian populations throughout the Eastern Mediterranean region, including in Israel, Egypt, and Jordan. The energy that Chevron supplies to Israel and its neighbors is essential for the operation of hospitals, schools, water-treatment plants, sewage facilities, refrigeration centers, and other critical infrastructure. Cutting off this energy supply would serve only to harm innocent civilian populations throughout the region, while doing nothing to avert any human rights violations.

Chevron has put in place a Human Rights Policy, which expressly adheres to the United Nations Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights. The UN Guiding Principles and Chevron’s Human Rights Policy recognize that “we have a responsibility to respect human rights and can play a positive role in the communities where we operate,” including by “our contributions to socioeconomic development.” Chevron is proud of its contributions to the economic health and well-being of the region and believes that its activities comply with all applicable laws.

Thank you for writing to us.

Sincerely,

Mary A. Francis

Corporate Secretary and Chief Governance Officer
